The statue of the Virgin Mary, which is here proposed to you, is a bust of the Blessed Virgin who holds the Infant Jesus close to her cheek in the movement which is one of "the Virgins of Tenderness". The set is located in an original way under the veil of Our Lady who wraps the two faces in an oval shape, like the old cameos, as if one would have center our focus on the Mother of God and her Divine Son.
The particularity of this statuette of the Blessed Virgin is fraught with symbolism. Indeed, the faces are like the identity cards of people: the sensitive reflection of their uniqueness, the figure that introduces us to the knowledge of their mystery. Here all the mystery of the Incarnation and Christmas is present in germ like in an egg. The person of Mary is shown to us in her prerogative of Mother of Christ: her reason for being one could say is to bear the Son of God and to present it to us, which she does with her right hand on the statue. His wrist is girded with a gold bracelet that seems to tie his hand to Jesus. One can see there the link of the Charity which binds it to his God and is translated by his works. For indeed, the person who is presented to us in the face of the Child Jesus is none other than the Word of God, God the Son: the second Person of the Holy Trinity, who with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit possesses the unique Divine nature. It is this mystery of one God in three Persons that the Word has come to reveal to us by taking a human nature. By the Virgin Mary, the Invisible, the Inaccessible is made known to men in the Mystery of the Incarnation: the assumption of a human nature, united to the divine nature in the unique person of the Word.
This statue of Mary, or rather this bust, illustrates well the words of St. Teresa of the Child Jesus: "She is more Mother than Queen". On this statue, the way Mary holds her child, makes us think of the Salve Regina where Mary is invoked under the name of "Mother of Mercy". Indeed through the child of this statue, each one of us can also recognize himselves: Mary, Mother of God, for each one of us, has a particular attention as if we were her only child.
