Description Diptych of The Guardian angel with a quotation from Exodus
This diptych will help you think and honor of your Guardian Angel. The starting point for devotion to our protective angel is first to recognize its existence and to think of it. The existence of angels is not obvious because they are pure spirits and we cannot see them with the eyes of the flesh; except by exceptional graces that God granted to certain saints like Saint Françoise Romaine for example. Mon Ange marchera devant toi. (Ex 23, 23)
God created billions of angels. A number of them rebelled and became demons under the leadership of Satan. It is generally taught that the greatest number of angels have been faithful to God. God chooses some, among holy angels, in order to serve men as protector, guardian, support, guide, adviser and ambassador. Each man has a guardian or protective angel. Each guardian angel fulfills this office only once.
In addition to the protective angel that every man: good or bad, pagan or Christian, has, God, in his paternal goodness, also attributed guardian angels to countries, cities, religious communities; moreover some people have several guardian angels because of their office; for example the superior of a community, the bishop and the pope.
So the angel is not only a messenger and faithful servant of God, like the angel Gabriel, but he is also filled with great personal interest for us. In the designs of God we are, the guardian angel and we, as long as our earthly journey lasts, as "brother and brother", "brother and sister". We, the guardian angel and us, have a common mission to accomplish in this world, for which one needs the other and one helps the other. Everyone has received from God natural talents and supernatural graces. We must use them for the honor of God and the salvation of souls.
The quotation on the right panel is taken from the book of Exodus. After leaving Egypt with the Hebrew people, Moses receives God's promise that he will be assisted by his protective angel to carry out the mission of leading the descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob into the promised land.
