Our Lady of Perpetual Help
This virgin, of the "hodigitria" type (she who shows the way), is a very successful copy of one of the three icons traditionally attributed to the Evangelist Saint Luke. It was painted at the time of iconoclastic persecution and for this reason the artist's hands were cruelly burned. However, the Virgin Mary cured him miraculously.
Later, the painter went to Rome to offer his picture to the Sovereign Pontiff, who used it to adorn the Church dedicated to Saint Matthew. But during the time of the occupation of Italy by Napoleon's armies the precious icon had to be hidden. It was not discovered again until 60 years later under Pope Pius IX, who had it placed in the Church dedicated to Saint Alphonsus Liguori, where it is still honored today.
It was the Virgin Mary who gave to herself the sweet name of "Mother of Perpetual Help" at the time of apparitions that occurred shortly before it was installed in Rome; and she had added:
"My favor will always accompany this picture!"

All the icons are provided with a hole on the back, so they are easily fixable to a wall. This hole is notched to facilitate its centering. The icons may also be displayed on an easel.
